Notary Public Certify the contents of a safe-deposit box WARNING

Did you know that a Florida bank or financial institutions can open your safe-deposit box if the rental payment are 3 months past due? In order for them to do so they must send you a notice by certified mail to your last known address stating that the safe-deposit box will be opened and its contents stored at the expense of the lessee unless payment of the rental is made within 30 days.

If you do not pay your bank or financial institution in 30 days they can call a Florida Notary Public to package, seal and inventory the content of your box. The Notary Public will issue a certificate reciting the name of the lessee, the date of the opening of the box, and a list of its contents. The Notary will include a copy of the notary certificate to be sealed in package. The financial institution will also send a copy by certified mail to your last known address.

The Notary Public certificate should look like this:

STATE OF FLORIDA
COUNTY OF__________________
On the ___day of _____________, 20__, safe-deposit box number
_________ rented in the name of ________________________ was
opened by _(name of financial institution)_ in my presence
and in the presence of __(name of officer)__. The contents of the
box consisted of the following:
(List contents here.)
(SEAL) Notary Public
(PRINT, TYPE OR STAMP NAME OF NOTARY)
Signature
(PRINT OR TYPE NAME OF PERSON OPENING BOX)

(PRINT OR TYPE NAME OF OFFICER OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTION)

If you do not respond 1 year after the mailing of the certificate, the bank or financial institution may send a further notice to the last known address of the lessee stating that, unless the accumulated charges are paid within 30 days, the contents of the box will be sold at public auction.
